10/03/22: NSR Formula 86/89 – Tom’s Time

Tom’s Time.

NSR F1 this week, and with two of the usual top three absent – Lee’s still pregnant and Josh was ill – it was left to Julian to maintain the honour of Molesey’s Three Amigos. It did, though, leave a couple of podium spaces up for grabs for those more used to finishing in the midfield.

Sure enough, Julian immediately disappeared into the distance, his margin of superiority so great that he was able to treat the race as a glorified test session and experiment with different suspension set-ups.

The battle for the podium’s bottom two steps was between Graham, Ed and David. Going into the final heat, David had what looked like a comfortable 9-second buffer over Graham, with Ed less than a second further back, but then threw it all away with a dire performance that saw him lapped by both Graham and Ed to see the three of them finish the race separated by just over a second.

With many of the club’s members now old, saggy and well past their prime, it’s encouraging to see the club’s youngest member, Tom, steadily chipping away each meeting and improving bit by bit. His reward this week was some close racing with Neil and Alan, winning his group’s first heat and, just to prove it wasn’t a fluke, winning his final heat too.

Congratulations Tom. Keep it up, because someone needs to take the fight to the top boys, and it’s unlikely to be the club’s geriatrics!
