20/07/23: Sideways GT3 – Julian Dominates

Julian Dominates.

What a difference a week makes in GT3. A relatively huge 0.181 seconds to be precise, which is how much faster race winner Julian’s best lap was this week compared to his best lap the week before. Not that it made much difference to the outcome of the race, because Julian has won every Sideways GT3 race he’s contested at Molesey this year and doesn’t look likely to be beaten in the near future, but it certainly sends a message to everyone else that they need to up their game considerably if they want to challenge for GT3 wins.

Simon was a distant second, almost three tenths a lap slower than Julian, then Alex in third with another excellent performance to follow his second place last week, albeit a couple of laps behind Simon. Terry was fourth, David fifth, and that was pretty much it for the top five, with no changes of position after heat 2.

Josh was having a torrid time trying to match Julian’s pace and it showed in his driving, several deslots not only ruining his own race, but taking others out too, the most spectacular causing a four-car pile-up at the second corner.

In contrast to the large gaps between the leading five, the battle for sixth to tenth between Josh, the Tomster, Graham, Ed and Chris was a lot closer. Josh was much faster than the rest but kept crashing. Ed went from sixth to tenth to an eventual ninth, the Tomster gained two places in the final heat to finish seventh, Chris and Graham were neck and neck for most of the race until Chris crashed a couple of times in the final heat to fall from eighth to tenth.

All everyone has to do now is find a heap of performance from somewhere so they can take the fight to Julian. It won’t be easy, but at least they have the best part of two months in which to find it, because GT3 doesn’t return until September 21st. The clock’s ticking…
