03/10/24: Slot.it DTM – Dirty Boys

Dirty Boys.

For all the loveliness of Molesey’s track, one of its downsides is that it needs to be clean. Even a small amount of dust on the track surface makes it slippery and destroys lap times, so you’d think that during the several hours the club is open for practice prior to the 8.15pm race start, someone would drive at least a few of their many hundreds of practice laps in each lane to clean up the dust that had settled since the last meeting. After all, nobody knows which lane they’ll be drawn in for their first heat until a couple of minutes before the race start, so if nothing else, they’re protecting themselves from having to race in a dirty lane. That would just be common sense, wouldn’t it?

Umm. Common sense and slot car racing aren’t always the greatest of bedfellows though, so when last-to-arrive David turned up with only a few minutes to spare before the race start and found himself drawn in blue lane, it was with some dismay that he discovered that nobody had driven a single lap in the lane. Not one. Zero. Zilch. Nada. You dirty, dirty boys!!

Still, after a lot of hilarity at David’s expense and a brief delay while he was allowed to drive ten laps to get the worst of the dust off, racing started.

Julian was back with his Mercedes C-Class, hoping to go one better than his second place of last week, and sure enough that’s how it played out. Simon put up a good fight, but it wasn’t enough to cause Julian any trouble, Julian taking the win by six seconds from Simon, with David a long way back in third.
