The Frank and Terry show.
Fuelled with samosas courtesy of Neil, nine intrepid racers wheeled out their NSR Classics: five Ford P68s, a pair of Ford Mk IVs for Frank and Vince and a solitary GT40 shared between Lee and Neil.
Julian immediately disappeared into the distance for an untroubled run to victory, with David similarly untroubled in second, but behind those two, Frank and Terry put on an entertaining squabble for the final podium spot.
Seeded together, for most of their first five heats the two were neck and neck, Frank eventually getting the upper hand in heat five to take a relatively comfortable four second lead into the final heat. Four seconds. Half a lap. Probably even enough for one crash, so surely Frank’s Mk IV was about to break the P68’s stranglehold on podium spots. Don’t try anything heroic and third place is pretty much in the bag. Easy. Except that it never is.
“Go”, and Frank was away, inexplicably driving on the ragged edge and leaving Terry in his wake. Unsurprisingly the inevitable soon followed; Frank was in the wall, three of his four seconds gone. Now the pressure was really on and it was Terry who rose to the challenge while Frank buckled with another trip into the barriers.
So once again P68s dominated, but this time with a well deserved podium spot for Terry. Nice one guys. Great to watch.
