Who Needs Tinder?
Club Molesey has got off to an excellent start this year, with several newcomers now regular racers, hooked by the club’s great atmosphere, or something…
I mean, given the myriad ways someone could spend their free time, why would they choose anything less than the unbeatable excitement of racing little plastic cars round and round in circles with strangers they first heard about on the internet? Tinder? Grindr? Dog Lovers Weekly? Absolutely no contest.
Vince made a welcome return this week, we had a visit from top-ranked BSCRA driver Will Stemman, and the weather gods smiled upon Ed the Gritter and let him out for an evening’s racing. Put everyone in NSR Classics and close racing was guaranteed.
Will immediately stirred things up at the top. Driving Team Bryant’s number-one arrive-and-drive car, he missed out on a Heat 1 win by just 0.09 seconds, laying down a marker for the rest to aim at. Ed the Gritter made his presence felt too, mixing it with Julian, Will and Lee early on to take 3rd place after Heat 2 before slowing slightly and finishing 5th overall.
Phil shone once again, battling closely with Graham for a group win, winning five of their six heats, but undoing all his good work by losing a lap to Graham in their penultimate heat, his consolation prize the point for fastest lap in their group. He’s definitely one to keep an eye on.
Young Tom was able to contest every heat this week and made the most of it, fighting hard with Vince and eventually finishing in an encouraging and well deserved 11th place.
Sideways Group 5 next week. If you’ve not yet braved the mysterious world of slot car racing, come and join us. Addiction gets a bad rap, but once you’re addicted to slot car racing, you’ll wonder how you ever managed without it.
