20/01/22 part 2: NSR Formula 86/89 – Better Late Than Never

Better late than never.

This week’s NSR F1 race was a slow burner, with most of the action happening in the final two heats and then topped off after the event when the timing system refused to play ball and let anyone know who the winner was.

The absence of immediate results meant there was no podium photograph, so instead you have an artist’s impression of it, half drawn but then abandoned due to disinterest by renowned five-year-old local artist and occasional slot car racer Zoe English, who claims that Josh is her favourite driver because he holds three of the four lane records at her local track and drives a big van.

Fortunately Neil was able to take the timing computer home, interrogate it and make it spill its secrets, so, better late than never, you now have some results to read.

Lee won comfortably, Josh snatched 2nd from Julian in Heat 6, having trailed him through Heats 1 to 5, while Heat 5 saw Graham pass Frank for 6th and Phil climb above Martin to take 9th place.

New junior racer Tom completed the field of twelve drivers. Only able to take part in the first four heats, he improved in each one, culminating in an excellent 3rd place in his final heat.

Next week sees the first round of Molesey’s new GT class. Most of the cars are still surrounded by secrecy, but a couple of NSR Moslers were seen practicing prior to the F1 race. Will the class be dominated by Moslers, or will an unexpected mystery machine take top spot? We’ll find out next Thursday.
